also did One Wing after side with seeds.

WOrds can not describe this show.....INcredible. Place was on their feet for the entire show. Sound was sweet and the show flowed better then any other Wilco show I have seen. Jeff was in a delightful mood. Lots of banter with crowd especially when he ask someone in audience to turn their tshirit inside out and then brought him on stage to show the ugliest T shirt ever made. It was an artistic portrait of Jeff.....said it was so bad he missed a lyric due to shock of seeing it... Also winner of raffle was standing front row center so he handed her the prize.

Best part of show not allowing cameras or cellphones. It was so nice not having people taking photos all night with camera phones...

Thanks WIlco....

You must have been on the "floor" for the show. I was sitting in the balcony and the sound wasn't very good up there at all. Loved the show, but the sound was lacking in the "cheap seats".

I'm very curious -- and would love some input -- as to why the boys choose to basically play 75-80% of the exact same set every night. I guess I don't understand what would be inspiring or exciting about doing this night in and night out? They are clearly capable of playing every song in their canon, but they pretty much play the same, exact songs they played on the summer tour, the fall/winter tour, etc. I mean, really, when you return to cities in which you've already played the same songs as last time out, why would you not want to mix things up a bit. Enough already with the Incredible Germany/California Stars duo and the Walken/Hate it Here... I mean, I love these songs, but let's bring together some new combos! Just had to vent a bit... as I am gong to see them consecutive nights in Montclair, NJ next weekend and I'm afraid they're going to be doing basically the same setlist both nights. I'm super excited about these shows and especially the acoustic sets... but just cross my fingers for some real variety in the electric sets...

Thoughts on this?

We were on the floor, and it was amazing. Best show I have seen, hands down.

I have been in the balcony for another event at the DPAC and it was not good. No view and sound is mediocre.

Hopefully with 2 nites at same venue, setlist will be more varied. With so many great Wilco songs, don't want to hear too many of the same ones on back to back nites!

I'll be in Montclair both nites too!

I look at it this way: First, I would say 75 to 80 percent is an over-exaggeration.

If you go back through setlists of recent tours, there is 14-18 songs that are played in every show. With a normal 23 to 28-song set, that limits the other songs that can be interlaced between the "standards." The additional songs chosen for a set (remember, largely based on requests and what the band previous played in that town) has a greater chance of affecting the pacing of the show, so setlists vary a bit more -- tough there is a number of similar groupings based on songs selected.

You play a 33 to 35-song set, there is a good bit of variation. To ask the band to have a markedly different setlist each nite on a tour at that pace would be too much to ask. Instead, on this tour (at least so far) they have a format where the show opens, there are a few variations of the 14-18 songs, but there are 4-5 places in the setlist to plug in requests and different songs. This makes the "moving parts" more manageable.

In Savannah, in most cases I knew the songs that were coming. I also knew where to anticipate something different (and hope for the songs I requested) and I was never disappointed, and in a few places was sent looking for my socks.

I can't believe people are still complaining about the setlists with these new longer shows. Yes, they're playing the old warhorses, but you're also getting 8-10 rarities where you were getting one or two before.

They're playing 35-song sets -- of course they're going to play "Heavy Metal Drummer", "I'm the Man Who Loves You", "California Stars", etc. Is this a problem when they're also playing "When You Wake Up Feeling Old", "Laminated Cat", "Passenger Side", "Sky Blue Sky", "Wishful Thinking", etc. etc.?

Yup. But it's always gonna happen. Even if the band plays a 35 song set, with 35 rarities, there'll be complaints. It's the gift and the curse of having so many songs to choose from.

My first Wilco show ever! First off, let me say I'm proud of my city for building a venue that would bring a band like Wilco here. Durham is definitely an artsy town, but we typically deal with the underground more than we do with well known acts like Wilco.

I'd been following this site to get an idea of what songs I might get to hear at the show, and I was pleased that I was still surprised with the setlist (despite the bickering on this thread). Jeff was in a great mood which made me feel even more proud that he seemed to be feeding off of a good energy from the crowd. The first time I'd ever gotten chills at a show was seeing U2 this summer in Raleigh, and halfway into the set I was thinking what an enjoyable show it was, but just not a moving experience like U2 was. Then they played Impossible Germany and the chills definitely came back. Passenger Side was awesome. As was Shot in the Arm.

The way they transitioned in and out of the acoustic set was really very cool. I was a little disappointed in Via Chicago but I think it has to do with it being such a great song to begin with and maybe it's just impossible to get better than the album version. The guitar duel during the encore was amazing. Some great banter with the crowd especially when the girl asked them to play their wedding (You don't have enough money to afford us. It would take a life-changing amount of money for us to play your wedding) and the Jeff Tweedy shirt as well as the dedication of Passenger Side (A guy at our show last night was so drunk, this song STILL goes out to him).

I couldn't imagine the show being better unless Wilco unveils the 24-minute version of At Least That's What You Said.

Well put. I guess it is asking a lot for them to curate each show in a completely different way. Just wish they would switch a few things up more in the post-acoustic segment. But, that being said, I cannot wait for the shows!!

Great review! Would someone be so kind as to direct me as to where song requests can be made for upcoming shows? Thanks!

Jeff pulled a kid up on stage in Charleston in August '08 that had that same T-shirt

It's the same kid!!!! I know because he sat right behind me during that show on the second row in Charleston! I never forget a face... Crazy how he's gotten to go on stage with Jeff twice now..... :lol

Was at the past two shows -- Atlanta and Durham -- and have to say it was quite a different feel. The Durham crowd was pretty tame in comparison. My buddy and I knew early on the Jesus singalong would be weak, and it was. Of course I was in front row for Atlanta and upstairs at DPAC so that had a lot to do with it.

But the guys were outstanding as usual. The way they put so much heart and thought and joy into what they're doing comes through loud and clear.

The complaints about these epic setlists are funny. I've seen them 12 times now and still haven't heard my fave Ashes yet, but I'm not complaining. Fantastic variety ... I have to get my hands on that version of Spiders. ALTWYS was amazing and great to catch on the second night.

Another thing I noticed is the mild applause for Deeper Down both nights. Am I one of the few folks who like that song? I see that as a great example of Glenn's stellar play. That guy seriously knows what he's doing back there.

Thanks guys for two great shows, and for making driving 1,000 miles in two days well worth it!

There were at least three tapers in Durham, and two of the sources will be uploaded sometime soon. (one to bt.etree, the other probably to DIME)
