Sunken Treasure DVD tabs

The riff is this:

e---3--5-6-7-

b------------

g---4--5-6-7-

I was just listening to this in the car today. It sounds like the riff changes subtley every time he plays it. The last notes of the riff sound different each time. Am I going crazy, or is this the case?

on the album or on a solo acoustic version?

How about the finger picked intro?

I'm not sure if there's a particular way Tweedy does it when playing solo, but if there is I haven't learned it. Seems you could just play the chords as arpeggios to get something that sounds like the album.

There's also the electric guitar bit on the E and the D chord in the intro. Over the E chords it's:

e---7-7

b---7-7b9

same riff 2 frets down on the D chord

Album.

sounds like the very first time is an octave lower, the other 3 sound the same to me

edit: maybe not actually a whole octave lower. try this: play these chords as E-shape barre chords: G Am Bbm Bm but just finger picking the 1st and 3rd strings - that's the "normal" way to play it. Now try the same thing with the 2nd and 4th strings - does that sound like the first riff on the album? I'd do it, but I don't really care anymore :P

I'm also waiting patiently for "In A Future Age." What a killer performance :)

In the mean time I've figured out how Jeff plays "A Family Gardiner" for Scott McCaughey (its in one of the intros right after Satan your kingdom must come down):

Its capo 5, the chords are:

some sort of modified G, don't know the exact name

e-0

B-3

G-0

D-0

A-2

E-3

Anyway we'll call this G*.

The chords go G* -> Bm -> G* -> C/G (332010) -> regular G (320033) -> F -> G*

You should be able to figure out how the chords are picked through by watching the DVD. He does something a little different with the G* though that is worth tabbing:

e|------0-----0-----0------------------
B|--------3-----3----------0-----------
G|----------0-----0----0h3---0---------
D|-0-0---------------------------------
A|-2-2---------------------------------
E|-3-3---------------------------------

Verses go like this:

(G*) The family garden is a special place

In sun and shade there, (Bm) I was raised

(G*)Voices fade away and (C/G)rooms are rearranged

(G)Now I'm the family (F)gardiner (G*)

If anyone knows what the ending chords to the song are please let me know.

Thought I'd mention that One by One is played capo 5 also, intro chords G F Em C. On the DVD Jeff adds a somewhat fancy element to the song that makes it sound really good - hes sounding the B string harder while strumming the chords. For the G and C chords he is pulling off the B string before changing to the next chord. Sounds awesome to me.

Does anyone know how Jeff plays Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down. The combination of the way he sings it and the old, weathered guitar he's playing, coupled with how intense looks really makes the song so haunting and beautiful. I am dying to learn how to play it...

Thanks

I'm looking and kind of working my way through a future age it sounds right but I'm not sure if thats how he plays it, the way I'm playing it is in and open D with the low E also dropped to D

Tuning looks like this

Low to high

D

A

D

A

D

F#

I don't want to post anything yet because I want to make sure its right if there is anyone out there that has it somewhat figured out I'd be curious

Or I would also like to beg ginandcigarettes to help because he did a wonderful job on someday somemorning sometime

Anyone know the tuning that "Laminated Cat" is in? It's definetly not drop d. Looks like maybe open D?

It's open D, but with the high E string staying on E

  • 1 month later...

I got the DVD a couple of days ago at a Best Buy, so I'll start it when I get home from work tonight. In case anyone else wants to start sooner, I'll tell you that the J-45 he uses on that song is the same one that he uses on songs that use the DADADE tuning. Just judging from the fingerings he's using, I'd say it's the exact same tuning. Anyway, I'll have it later tonight.

Sorry for the delay, I've been really busy with work lately and just haven't had the time to sit down and listen to this. Anyway, here's a link to the powertab, but for any of those who prefer not to use the amazing power of that program, here's a text file of the transcription.
