New and Improved 3-ply election thread...

I think the dog whisperer should be brought in as an expert witness to any hearings regarding the personal debt/spending habits of many Americans. Might help quite a bit to find a solution.

MCCAIN HAS NO JUMP SHOT!

Think that might be because he can't raise his arms to shoulder height?

He might try an old fashioned underhand shot

I haven't seen 3 reasons to vote for McCain yet. Anyone there? Or do we have to wait until the suspension is lifted?

Here are three:

1. He's a Maverick, whatever the hell this means.

2. He invented the Blackberry, along with fire and the wheel.

3. His VP pick is a normal person and I can relate to her although she is as dumb as a rock.

McCain/Palin is the worst ticket I have ever seen, I cannot imagine them winning this thing.

I'm a centrist, but I challenge you to give me three good reasons to vote for McCain (don't even mention the war hero stuff). Anybody who associates themselves with the party that had eight years to run things and left us with this, most of them with the congress and the the Supreme Court on their side, doesn't deserve anyone's vote. I'll give you three reasons why I won't pull the lever for any Republican this year:

1. Wars that never should have been started

2. Pending retirement of at least two Supreme Court justices

3. Total lack of fiscal conservatism

These are the top 2 reasons why I will be voting against Obama.

1. The prez's pension is about $191,300 per year until he/she is 80 years old. If McCain wins & lives to be 80, he would receive zero pension as he would reach the age of 80 at the end of two terms as prez. O would be retired for 26 years after two terms, which means he would receive $4,973,800 in pension income. Total economic sense to vote for the true American hero, John McCain. A war hero. A POW. A really old dude.

2. Lipstick sales will increase as will American jobs in lipstick sales, manufacturing, and worldwide distribution. Oh, and choice of colors will also increase.

3. Saturday Night will actually be funny again

You are not understanding the original question. Why would you vote for McCain (not against Obama).

and our friends at Comedy Central and Maher would rake it in, but they've had enough fun the last 8 years.

Greed, Or Incentives?

Richard Epstein 09.23.08, 12:01 AM ET

It had been my devout wish to write a set of disinterested columns about labor markets to illustrate the power of the presumption against state regulation of voluntary agreements. But the financial meltdown of the past week has rudely interrupted my plan to pillory the minimum wage.

Instead, I shall turn on a dime to address two connected questions: How did we get to that sorry state where great institutions topple, and what should be done?

On both questions, our bipartisan consensus is holding true to form. In a system that is chock-full of heavy regulation, they instantly blame the current collapse on the excesses of the free market, for which a still heavier dose of regulation supplies some supposed cure. That indictment contains few particulars. It typically rests on a populist broadside whose centerpiece is greed on Wall Street, but never on Main Street--where there are more voters.

This prior is all wrong. Greed is a constant of human nature. Financial meltdowns are not a constant of economic political life. It takes, therefore, an understanding of the overall incentive structure to explain why selfish economic behavior produces great progress on some occasions and financial ruination on others.

On this question, your stalwart libertarian is persona non grata in respectable company. If voluntary markets normally align private incentives with social welfare, then always look first for a government intervention that knocks those incentives off line. It

1. Because McCain/Palin are not the the ones on the ballot with a horrendous voting record regarding abortion, and a socialistic and culturally liberal policy "wish-list" for our country.

I understood the original question. However, my main motivation in this election is doing my best to ensure Obama is not our next president. Trust me, McCain is not my ideal choice, but in my opinion, he's the better of the two.

Let's waste time & votes on the idea that reversing Roe v. Wade would do squat to ban abortions in the US. It won't, and it's absolutely stupid to vote based on abortion. No politician will ever take that right away from woman period. Maybe a few crazy states, but not the country as a whole.

People did this with Bush, who by the way, did absolutely nothing for abortion. They loved his Christian values, which he seemed to forget once he was elected, or should I say, got into office somehow.

Somehow, in my gut (and I rely on my gut, not my brain, the gut doesn't lie) I find it hard to believe that you are a Wilco fan. Why would you support a band that is clearly endorsing Obama?

Write that 100 times before you go out to recess.

Exactly, the point is moot. And the dipshits will say, "just by saying it, I agree with their character." K, whatever. Get back in the minivan, to borry a phrase from Letterman, and we'll keep riding this shit out.

What do either of those things have to do with each other? I love Wilco because I love their music and I think they are the best band out there right now. I also love The National and I like Pearl Jam and The Decemberists, etc., etc. (I can't think of any other bands that have done benefits off the top of my head).

It's a pretty ridiculous assertion to make, as if the two were mutually exclusive.

Considering SNL hasn't been funny during the Bush Presidency, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Palin makes me laugh even without SNL. :yes

But what the hell happened to the writers of SNL? I have not laughed since this. I thought maybe it was just me getting old or something.
