Favorite Albums of the 80's

Recommended Posts

If I had to say, I guess the 80's represents the smallest fraction of my music collection. I started wondering if it was a weak decade as decades go or just me missing out on a lot of good stuff, so I made a list of my favorite bands/albums:

Pixies – Doolittle

Bruce Springsteen – Nebraska

The Cure – Disintegration

The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses

Paul Simon – Graceland

R.E.M. – Document

Tom Waits – Swordfishtrobomes

Richard Thompson – Shoot Out the Lights

The Waterboys – Fisherman's Blues

The Smiths – Strangeways, Here We Come

Prince – Sign 'O' The Times

The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms

Talking Heads – Remain in Light

Sonic Youth – Daydream Nation

Minutemen – Double Nickels on the Dime

U2 – War

Joy Division – Closer

Mission of Burma – Signals, Calls & Marches

Cowboy Junkies – The Trinity Session

Billy Bragg – Life's a Riot With Spy Vs Spy

The Clash – Sandinista!

Elvis Costello & The Attractions – Get Happy

Lyle Lovett – Pontiac

Yours?

Squirrel Bait was a band (of high school kids) out of Louisville that put out two great albums.

The sound is not unlike Husker Du - loud but with melody.

Three of the guys went on to form Slint and one who didn't (David Grubbs) went on to form Gastr del Sol.

AMG and Amazon have it listed as "Original Release Date: May 2, 1989." All the Cure you mention are excellent too but I think Disintegration is my favorite of theirs.

Some good ones already mentioned, but...

I've never been a big heavy metal fan, particularly the 80s hair/glam-rock horseshit, but no list is complete without one of the best albums of the decade: Appetite for Destruction.

For me, I recall U2's Joshua Tree, The Meat Puppets' Up On The Sun, and the Pixies' Surfer Rosa as great albums of the 80s, too.
